PLEASE DON’T “FALL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL”

and wake up to a village without a Church!

Like most of the Country, North Perrott has a mostly secular population, where everyone is too busy or has moved on from religion, but almost everyone expects their Church to be there at certain times in their life. Perhaps most importantly at death!

The village as a whole contributes to the upkeep of the graveyard through the Parish Precept but is now a very small band of volunteers, who keep the fabric of the Church to a very high standard and keep the building open by maintain regular church services throughout the year.

North Perrott is well reknown for its fundraising abilities and together with the Cricket Club, run and annual fete which this year will be held on 7th July. Funds are also raised at music events and meals throughout the year. Despite this, the costs of maintaining the Church are significant and without those few hard working people, the village will eventually lose the ability to keep the Church open for Christenings, Weddings and Funerals.

You do not have to be religious to take an interest in preserving the history of the village and the oldest building in our community (although perhaps it would help?). Do get involved and find out more about what the Parochial Church Council does and how you might be able to help by volunteering occasionally or helping to raise funds for maintenance.

The Annual General Meeting of the Parochial Church Council of North Perrott will take place at St. Martin’s Church on Monday 13th May at 6pm.   Do come along to hear about the plans for our Village Church.   All would be welcome.
